There are a few people who are extremely supportive of us, with the primary emphasis being on seeking God and doing what he wants. But the vast majority of people, from relatives to pastors have no concern about us seeking God's will for our lives. They just want us to race overseas.
We have finally gotten to a place of peace where we are so incredibly confident that we we're involved in is what God wants us to be involved in, and we have all kinds of people who just keep pressuring us to do something different.
I still think we'll be overseas in the future. I don't question that. But it's not now. And it isn't supposed to be.
I think it boils down to people just not caring. The problem is that these people who just don't care about us, are the ones who are supposed to care the most. Family. Pastors. Anyone who has taken the time to get to know us in the last six or seven years is incredibly supportive of what we are doing for our jobs, our voluteering, our growing together as a family.
It's just incredibly insulting and discouraging to be told how much we suck because we're not in a certain part of the world
Jon the C. Thanks for taking the time to share what's going on..really! I know you told me this a couple of months ago and I'd like to get on the record that I want nothing more than for you to finish what you believe God has called you to do here before you be a blessing somewhere else.
I guess my point is I agree with you and wherever you go you'll be a blessing!
Yeah, I may go back and delete this post... It's a frustrating issue, so it may have been written out of frustration.
But not now.... I need to go cool down my sun-burned legs. I just climbed my 1st fourteener.
I love what you guys are doing and where you are at. Know you have my full support for the decisions you are currently making, and how that affects what is coming for your future. I think God has already done some amazing things thru both of you in your time here, and I personally am VERY thankful for you both! I also think He has some great things in store for you, right here in Colorado, and I'm glad you have been able to listen to Him and not so much the "discouragers" around you. Blessings on you both! Miss ya!
Sorry, Jon. I can just imagine who some of these people might be. Try to forgive their zealousness for missions and thinking they know what God wants for you. Sometimes when you're "sold out" to something, it's hard not to try to convince everyone else that they need to be "sold out" too. Keep doing what you believe God wants you to do and leave the future in His hands.
Blessings on you both. And thanks for being such good friends to my kids.
Hi Pat,
Thanks for the comment. It's not being "sold out" to missions - because we are... I think most of us who say we're sold out to missions aren't - if we are, why aren't we sharing the gospel in our own communities? That just isn't happening. So I think it's untrue to say that we're all just "sold out" to missions.
In reality, I think people are "sold out" to a program, or an idea about how things should be done. It's not about missions or we'd see fruit at home. It's not about doing what God wants, or we'd see people seeking God's will for each other, rather than trying to strong-arm them (and God's plans for them) into the pre-defined box.
Sorry, what I said obviously didn't come out the way I meant it. I don't have my daughter's gift with words. Maybe next time I'll do a better job.
Oh, no, not at all Pat! I really appreciate your comment, as always in my blog. I truly appreciate both your interest and feedback!
I understand what you're saying - that they are just trying to be passionate about missions. I agree that's what people are thinking they are doing.
But somewhere we so often miss what we are actually trying to be passionate about, and we become passionate with our ideas about it, or our programs about it.
Amen.
